The Firebox Folding Chef’s Knife has been a passion project of Steve's After trying to use bushcraft knives for cutting vegetables he knew he had to develop something just for camp cooking.
Size considerations: Steve wanted it to be as big as possible but still fit in both sizes of the Firebox Ultra Cook Kit for storage (with the included holster it won't scratch things up).
Grind: he wanted it to cut straight through hard vegetables so it has a flat grind that tapers from the edge all the way to the spine.
Blade thickness: Steve wanted a fairly thin blade so it would cut through hard vegetables easily and be as lightweight as possible.
Blade alloy: Of course it had to hold an edge very well but I also wanted corrosion resistance for cutting acidic fruits and vegetables. We tried several alloys, and landed on 10Cr15MoV which Steve is loving!
Note: This is not a bushcraft / camp knife and will not hold up to that kind of use. We recommend opening it by hand rather than flipping it open due to the large heavy blade. When choosing the blade alloy we leaned heavily towards edge retention and strength, rather than corrosion resistance. Hand wash only! For long term storage we recommend a light coat of oil.
Features:
- Material: 10Cr15MoV steel
- Blade Length: 5"
- Folded Length: 6.25"
- Open Length: 10.75"
- Weight: 7oz
